Big Time Gaming (BTG) are set to launch their new Starquest slot on October 5, and they are keeping a number of cards very close to their chest with this game.
They’ve released a preview, so large parts of the setup of this slot are known, but there is a key variable which could make or break the game – the bonus round. BTG is not letting us near that, yet, so like us, you will have to wait to see if it delivers.
What we do know about the slot, though is that it can (at certain points in the game) contain as many as 117,649 paylines. This has never been done before in the slot world, so it makes the space adventure themed Starquest slot of huge importance.
If the feature takes off, expect many players to want to get to grips with it. The way it works is simple enough. Each icon in the game is capable of appearing in different sizes – the smaller the icons are, the more paylines you will get to play with.
It is being called the Megaways System, and it is a feature that could really push the relatively small-scale BTG into the big time. Of course, the only way we’ll know for sure is to wait until it is released on October 5.
How to play it
We know what the minimum wager will cost in Starquest, although it is not quite known just how high the maximum wager will rise to. Our estimate is that you’ll be looking at a maximum wager of around $400 a spin, but that is purely conjecture at this moment in time.
The minimum wager will certainly cost you $0.40 per spin. One can only hope that the value of the wagers don’t help to determine the number of lines you get to play with.
How much can you win?
Again, Big Time Gaming is playing this one close to their chest. Given the wins we saw, compared with the other games released by BTG, we’re predicting that you’ll be looking at wins which range anywhere from 875x your total stake, up to 1,000x your total stake.
Like so many things in this slot, we’re going to have to wait a week until we know for certain.

Special symbols
Wild symbols: Wilds are the most important icons in this slot, and they appear as the leading lady of the slot – the explorer.
They can substitute for all other symbols (save for scatters) as you might expect. Wilds are so much more than that, though. They can offer multipliers and can trigger sticky wild respins when they appear on the reels. We’ll dive into that in just a moment, though.
Scatter symbols: Here’s another feature that BTG isn’t letting anybody in on just yet – scatters. We know that they take on the shape of the SQ (Starquest) logo, and that they offer scattered wins.
However, most symbols in the slot do that, so we’re not really sure what they are for yet. We hope BTG has added a bonus round which is triggered by them, but that too is speculative.
Free spins / Bonus features
Sticky wild respins: Those wild symbols we mentioned earlier can trigger a re-spin bonus. When a wild appears, it will remain sticky for a single re-spin. If another wild pops up, you’ll get another re-spin with both wilds.
This pattern can continue as long as you keep bagging wilds, until all 6 reels are wild. Each additional wild you land gives you a multiplier increase of 1x, so it is a very prosperous feature.
Overall experience and final thoughts
There’s much that appeals about this slot. We certainly like what we’ve been allowed to see thus far. BTG could be keeping things back for two reasons: either there is a superb bonus round still to come via those scatters, or scatters simply don’t do anything but offer you scattered wins.
Just how well this game is received may well depend on the answer to that riddle, irrespective of it containing over one hundred thousand paylines. Once more, the only way we are going to know is to wait until October 5, when the game should be released at all good casinos offering software from Big Time Gaming.
