How to bet?
If you’re ready to give Vegas Downtown Blackjack a try, the first you will need to do is place your bet. On the side of the table are chips worth 1.00, 5.00, 10.00 and 25.00 totals. You must place your bet into the betting squares (multiple bets can be placed for multiple hands). The table minimum is 1.00 per hand, whilst the maximum table limit is ideal for high-rollers, as it is fixed at 1,000.00 per hand.
How to play?
Once the bet has been placed, and the player clicks the deal button; the player will receive two cards face-up, and the dealer two cards, of which only one is face-up. Players can then take a look at their cards, and decide if they wish to double-down, split cards of the same value, stand or hit. Players can double after a slit, can re-split twice, but cannot re-split aces. Surrender is also not an option in Vegas Downtown Blackjack. Players can also choose to take an insurance bet, if they believe the dealer to be holding blackjack.
Once they have made their decision, the dealer will make theirs, before the dealer’s cards are revealed and the highest ranking hand wins (up to 21). It is worth noting that if a player goes over 21, they are said to have gone bust, and instantly lose the game.
This blackjack game is unique as it only uses two decks of cards, which offers the game a house of only 0.39%.
Pay-outs
In Vegas Downtown Blackjack, the dealer must draw on soft 17s or lower, and can only stand on hard 17s. Should you land blackjack, you will pick up a pay-out of 3:2, and if your insurance bet comes off, you’ll pick up 2:1 winnings. Players will win pay-outs of 1:1 for any other win.
Tips and Tricks
It is important that players note that after splitting, a hand consisting of an ace and a ten will only consist of 21, not a blackjack. It is worth taking that information to heart before you play, so that you don’t think that the game is cheating you!
Overall Experience & Final Thoughts
Vegas Downtown Blackjack is one of the first major blackjack variants, and there is no surprise that is still much in demand today. It has a low house edge, which is down to the lack of decks that it uses. Moreover, it doesn’t have overly complicated rules regarding splits and doubling. Vegas Downtown Blackjack is a game most lovers of American Blackjack can easily adopt as their own, and grow to love in no time at all.
